Ecological Transitions

ISAE Group – A key player in the sustainable aerospace sector

Alongside industries and institutions, the ISAE Group has defined a strategy contributing to the development of a sustainable aerospace sector. Four strategic focus areas have been defined:

  • Training new generations of engineers in the challenges of the ecological transition in the aerospace sector and preparing them to take part in the public debate;
  • Reinforcing our research activities in the direction of the ecological transition;
  • Participating in discussions on the future of the sector with industries and institutions;
  • Being exemplary in the way we operate on our campuses.

The ISAE Group’s actions in this area are coordinated in a special commission called “Ecological Transitions”, made up of a reference supervisor and a student representative from each school.

'Environmental Engineering” Certificate

Engineering students at the schools of the ISAE Group can take a supplementary 2-month training program at the end of their studies, leading to a Certificate in Environmental Engineering.

Offered under a Chair in a partnership with AIRBUS, this certificate is an opportunity to study environmental question applied to the entire life cycle of an airplane: economic models and challenges of sustainable development, approach and analysis of an airplane’s life cycle, ecomobility, etc.

This program is based on practical implementation and feedback (conferences, testimonials, company visits, etc.), as well as carrying out an innovative team project.

Euroglider Project

Euroglider is a project for the design of an innovative two-seat glider using electrical propulsion for use in education and training. Promoted by the European Gliding Development Association (AEDEVV), this project is being coordinated in a partnership with Dassault Aviation and 4 schools of the ISAE Group. For students at ISAE-SUPAERO, ISAE-ENSMA, école de l’Air and ESTACA, Euroglider is a particularly educational project. Beyond the innovative technical and technological aspects (aerostructures, propulsion and energy chains, comprehensive training systems, etc.) that must meet the needs expressed by users to facilitate access to glider flight, the students are approaching this project as a real industrial project: a glider’s life cycle and its energy chain, regulatory and environmental framework, economic data.
